The Back Story

After my parents divorce my Mum, Dorothy Wakeling (Gran-Dottie), moved to Monavale: 11 Lyndhurst - what would become Big Tree Harare - where I've lived with my Mum and "Step-Father," Mr. Kelly, on and off since 1995. The Kremlin at Big Tree Harare is the building in the picture above (in the foreground) and is a historic building of Zimbabwe built in 1911.

The need for a Camp Zero for our dedicated US Soldier and a family online. Myself and my brother were born in Canada, my sister was born in Zimbabwe. Born in 1980, I am so-called "born free". Our family heritage comes through British (my father) and South African (my mother) descent. I attended ILSA Independent College, Harare (1997-8). ILSA is situated on the same block as the US Embassy to Harare. Because of my Canadian Citizenship the USA got me thinking. Oppo, one of Mr. Kelly's staff came to work wearing a shirt labelled "US ARMY" and it's quite a popular fashion label generally in Africa. To cut a long story short I thought of my position as a Canadian and the need for US representation in Zimbabwe and this lead to my desire to become a US Citizen. Also the need to represent a fashion label. So what I did is "sign up" as a US Soldier and then created Big Tree Harare, NASA, White House etc. Basically Big Tree Harare is on the US "outlying territories" map now where it wasn't before (Blank Space by Taylor Swift).

It's hard to get the facts down accurately within the limits of a blog but the "tree" of Big Tree Harare is meant to be a metaphor for a psychological (and socio-political) tree. It comes from Gran-Dottie's interest in environmental concerns through her tireless work for BirdLife Zimbabwe, the Conservation Society of Monavale (COSMO) and Harare Wetlands. Big Tree Harare is named after the Big Tree at Victoria Falls hence our motto (above) and represents the Zimbabwean spirit and the environment.

So US Soldier, where are we now? A point of contact.

My own story goes through dropping out of ILSA (1998) and teaming up with Geraldene Cockcroft (Moyo) as a counsellor and psychologist and spearheading PNI (psychoneuroimmunology) in Africa. That's the short version of a very long story. My passion of the outdoors shouldn't be overlooked regards Big Tree Harare either.
